Buffett & Dave

Dave sat in with Jimmy Buffett and the Coral Reefer Band at the From the Big Apple to the Big Easy Benefit the other night and performed Heart Of Gold (you will know it when you hear it) by Neil Young.

Enjoy

John Butler Trio

Wow. This band is incredible. I am very thankful I went in a little early prior to DMB. We were treated to some great music by the John Butler Trio. John who? what? I was saying the same thing until I found myself tapping my foot and feeling a really good groove from their music. You know the feeling....the one when you hear a song and then a few hours or days later wanting to hear it again. Then when you do listen you play it over and over again. Currently I am listening to a live version of Ocean (John Butler Solo), and it is a gorgeous song. It does not stop there check out Zebra, Betterman, Peaches & Cream or What You Want.

Where can you find them? That's the easy part they are on the iTunes Music Store, Amazon, or even better download some of their live goods at bt.tree.org.

Braves Down; Apple Up

The Atlanta Braves had the momentum going into last night's game 5 after a come from behind victory in Houston. But Houston hammered the Braves 12-3 and won their first playoff series in team history.

Apple's iPod now has a leading 82% share 92% of the US mp3 market. And it could grow even more if they release the that rumored “video” edition.

DMB Charlotte

Tonight is the night. Heading out to Charlotte now for the Dave Matthews Band show at Verizon Wireless Amphitheater. Be sure to check out my DMB photolog for pictures from the show. I will be updating them throughout the day and night so be sure to check it out.

Nothing Like Some New Dave

The 2004 DMB tour got off to a great start last night in St. Louis. They debuted four new songs and everything else showed to be the typical DMB show. Although the road page of the band said that Grace Is Gone and Warehouse had some new twists. By far the best of the new four is Crazy Easy (Wagering this will be the first single) and Joyride. Sugar Will (Great Sax work from Roi) and Hello Again seem to need some tweaking. Lord knows they will get plenty of play time since the tour will last until early September.

For those who want to give them a listen.......

Phish Says Goodbye

Today is a sad day for Phish fans. Trey Anastasio wrote an open letter that was posted on the Phish website stating that the band is "done". He also made clear that this was not another "hiatus" as they took before. Although I am not their biggest fan I have enjoyed there music and even Trey's solo project. The good news is that they are releasing a new CD entitled "Undermind" on June 15th, 2004. Two days after the release of their final CD they will begin their final summer tour together. The last stop will be in their homestate of Vermont which will not doubt be a great show.

Dead On iTunes Music Store

Looks as if the Grateful Dead will be releasing their entire live collection via the iTunes Music Store. This collection, which by the way dates back to the 60's (folks that's a lot of music) will be sure to make a lot of Dead Heads happy. I for one am not a huge fan, but I have a few favorites from the band. My buddy Jeff turned me on to Women Are Smarter....great song. But my all time favorite Dead tune is Eyes Of The World mainly because DMB covered this song back in 95' as a tribute to the great Jerry Garcia.

Bob Weir, lead singer and rhythm guitarist of the former Grateful Dead and now Ratdog summed up the upcoming release best by saying "...compared to most music at iTunes, the Dead's jams are a bargain, he says with a laugh. At 99 cents a tune, it's a pretty decent price, because most of our tunes are pretty long."

About Last Night....

From DMB's Road page commenting on the concert they played in New York's Central Park last night:

"It was an absolutely amazing evening. DMB was on fire in Central Park tonight playing to an audience of 90,000+. What a sight that was from the stage, one we will not soon forget. The band played a total of 20 tunes over a three hour set. Warren Haynes came out and sat in on Cortez The Killer and Jimi Thing. During Jimi, the band slid into the chorus of Buffalo Springfield's - Everybody Look What's Going Down. Wait until you hear the tape! Better yet, look for a DVD of the show sometime in the future. Thanks for another great season! We're all headed home for a little while, but we'll see y'all before too long".

I watched the whole thing on my Powerbook it is something I will never forget. Sometimes technology is a good thing. I only wish I would have been able to have been there live in person. The show will be released on CD/DVD this November 4th, 2003 so mark your calendars now it will be a must have. The band loves to play NY, and Dave made numerous comments including this one "So nice to run into you in the park here, the greatest park in the world, and the greatest city in world," of how much they love the "Big Apple".

DMB Live In NY

DMB is currently playing a benefit concert live in New York's Central Park. You can watch it live if you have Real Player. Check it out!! I have been watching it and I am stunned at the band's energy, and the set list so far has been killer.

Jimi Thing/Watchtower Downloads

Here are some great video clips from DMB's 9/20/2003 show in Atlanta at the HiFi Buys Amphitheatre. This was technically the last stop of the tour until the band decided to play a benefit concert in New York's Central Park. The Jimi Thing clip captures Dave at his best doing a scat rap during his solo. If this does not get your a** moving then your no fan. The Watchtower clip shows Dave at the climax of the song in which he wails "And the wind began to Howwwwwl".
